I consider this good news. As you probably already know Hodgkin's is very curable. You stand an excellent chance of outliving me! We look forward to seeing you back in Dayton. Be tough and strong as I know your family misses you greatly.
I also think this is relatively good news. I hope you can get some rest in Cleaveland. From all I've read and heard, you are at an excellent facility with excellent doctors.
I'm sure you are already rapidly becoming an expert on this disease. Here's a quick blurb for others from the Leukemia and Lymphoma society website:
Hodgkin lymphoma* is a specialized form of lymphoma, and represents about 11.4 percent of all lymphomas diagnosed in 2009. Hodgkin lymphoma has characteristics that distinguish it from all other cancers of the lymphatic system, including:
- Higher incidence rates in adolescents and young adults [you can tell people you have a YOUNG person's disease :)] - The five-year relative survival rate for patients with Hodgkin lymphoma has increased dramatically from 40 percent in whites from 1960-1963 to more than 86 percent for all races from 1999-2005. [You are SO going to beat this, Bill. The overall survival rate is high - and you are going into this healthier than most.
* Lymphoma facts and statistics from Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma Facts 2009-2010, June 2009.
Be strong. I hope the scariest moments are now behind you. When you're up to it, I'd be happy to run that half marathon with you - if I can keep up.
I, like Sarah, would also like to run with you when you are ready. Here's a site you may find interesting. Team in Training runs, hikes, bikes for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. http://www.teamintraining.org/
